Announcing the 3rd Annual Mr Hoist Contest!

This was by far the most popular Mr Hoist Contest. 15 people entered, but many hundreds more paid to watch the show. This was the first year that the judges and contestants were squeezed on all sides by the audience. It was also the first year that an interval act was booked to entertain the crowd while the scores were added.

Restless Crowd

This picture doesn't do justice to how packed the Hoist was.

DJ Kurt

Hoist DJ Kurt was the compere for the evening.

Larry and John

2 of the judges: Larry (on the left), who flew in from L.A. just to be at the event, and me with some experimental facial hair. (It's gone now)

Round 1 contestant

In the first round the contestants were marked on appearance and leather image.

Round 1 Contestant

One of the great things about the Hoist is the variety of people who attend. From leather tops and skinheads with chains ...

Round 1 Contestant No 7

... to rubber fanatics and really BIG guys (No. 7 - Hugo)...

Round 1 Contestant

... to cute young things and hairy men with tattoos and piercings.

Round 1 Contestant No 11

If there was an award for best tattoo Darren, (No. 11), would have won (unfortunately it's across his back)

Round 1 Contestant No 13

In round 2 marks were awarded for personality and community awareness. It helped if you played up to the crowd. This is Patrick (No. 13)
